For doctors and health professionals

A tool to support the clinical decisions of doctors and health professionals, not for self-diagnosis or self-treatment.

This calculator is inside the patient's file in Clinicato: open it from "Medical tools" while you chart the visit, it fills in from the patient's details and vital signs where they are recorded, and adds its result to the visit's plan in one tap, with the "Medical tools" add-on. Calculator

Medical note: The result supports a clinical decision, it does not replace the doctor's judgement or examining the patient, and is to be checked against your reference before any treatment decision.

How it works and when to use it

The score adds points for signs of DVT (3), PE as the most likely diagnosis (3), heart rate over 100 (1.5), immobilisation or recent surgery (1.5), previous DVT or PE (1.5), haemoptysis (1) and malignancy (1).

Three tiers: under 2 low, 2 to 6 moderate, over 6 high probability, and two tiers: over 4 PE likely, 4 or less PE unlikely, usually followed by a D-dimer.

Frequently asked questions

Why use the score when CT is available?

It sets the probability before testing, and with a low probability a negative D-dimer may rule PE out without imaging.

Can it be used in pregnancy?

It was not designed for pregnancy, and adapted diagnostic pathways for pregnant women are for the doctor to choose.
