Calculator

Medical note: The result supports a clinical decision, it does not replace the doctor's judgement or examining the patient, and is to be checked against your reference before any treatment decision.

How it works and when to use it

mmol/L = mg/dL ÷ 18.016, from the molecular weight of glucose, and the other way round by multiplying by the same number.

ADA classes: fasting under 100 normal, 100 to 125 impaired fasting glucose, 126 or more diabetes range, and 2 hours after 75 g glucose: under 140 normal, 140 to 199 impaired tolerance, 200 or more diabetes range.

Reference: mmol/L = mg/dL ÷ 18.016 (glucose 180.16 g/mol); diagnostic thresholds: ADA Standards of Care in Diabetes

Frequently asked questions

Why do countries and labs use different units?

Some use mg/dL and others mmol/L, and the value is the same once converted.

Is a home glucose meter enough for a diagnosis?

No, diagnosis needs a laboratory test, the home meter is for daily follow-up.
