A tool to support the clinical decisions of doctors and health professionals, not for self-diagnosis or self-treatment.
This calculator is inside the patient's file in Clinicato: open it from "Medical tools" while you chart the visit, it fills in from the patient's details and vital signs where they are recorded, and adds its result to the visit's plan in one tap, with the "Medical tools" add-on. Calculator
The result shows once you confirm, and a dose is always to be checked against the product label or your drug reference before use.
How it works and when to use it
The calculator multiplies the child's weight by the dose per kilogram per administration that the doctor takes from the drug reference, caps it by the maximum single dose and by the maximum daily dose divided by the doses a day, and turns it into mL for the preparation's strength (mg per mL).
It does not know the drug and suggests no dose: every number is the doctor's, and the result is checked against the product label and the drug reference.
Reference: Dose (mg) = weight (kg) × mg/kg, capped by the maximum single and daily doses; volume (mL) = dose × mL ÷ mg of the preparation
Frequently asked questions
Why is the dose capped at a maximum?
An older or heavier child's weight-based dose can exceed the adult dose, so references set a maximum per dose and per day.
Actual or ideal weight?
Actual weight for most drugs, some drugs in obesity use another weight as the reference says, and the doctor decides.
Why does the calculator not suggest the dose?
The dose depends on the drug, the indication, the age and kidney function, it belongs to the drug reference, and the calculator only works out what the doctor sets.
