How it works and when to use it

The score adds five findings of the vaginal examination: dilation, effacement and station (0 to 3 each), and cervical consistency and position (0 to 2 each), for a maximum of 13.

In ACOG's induction guidance a score of 6 or less is an unfavourable cervix, where ripening is considered, and above 8 the chance of vaginal delivery with induction is similar to spontaneous labour.
